Externships & Internships

As a teaching facility, the Pet Emergency and Specialty Center of Marin offers veterinary student externships and rotating internships for veterinary students and veterinarians wishing to advance their training.

PESCM offers 2-4 week externships in the specialties of Cardiology, Diagnostic Imaging, Emergency Services, Urgent Care, Internal Medicine, Neurology and Surgery. Rotating externships are also possible. Preference is given to veterinary students who will have completed their third year of instruction prior to starting the externship and are accepted on a rolling basis.

Externship Objectives:
  • Externs will benefit from frequent case-based learning opportunities with a matched emergency or specialty clinician mentor.
  • Externs can interface with the service or clinician that is the busiest or is attending to cases of particular interest to the student.
  • Demonstrate excellent patient care and client service skills wherever applicable.
  • Respond to directed participation in conceptual and hands-on patient assessments, diagnostics and therapeutics. Although primarily observational, you will have many opportunities for direct patient contact and participation in assessments and therapeutics.
